<p class="wp-block-paragraph">More than a good idea, the Greenhouse Project is one innovation in the continuum of care that is gaining traction. It offers supportive care for those in need of it in a setting that encourages friendships and closer relationships with care givers and residents. It&#8217;s a type of congregate care that is less institutional and more nurturing than alternatives. Both residents and staff see it as better overall than alternative. Major insurers would add insurer-diagnosed issues like diabetic cataracts, morbid obesity, and emphysema to client records and bill the government despite no treatment actually being procured. About <strong>18,000 Medicare Advantage recipients</strong> had an insurer come up with an HIV diagnosis, which gets insurers another $3,000 per year, even though less than 17 percent of patients with insurer-driven HIV diagnoses were actually on antiretroviral drugs, and it appears that almost all of those people didn’t have HIV. All told, Medicaid paid insurers $50 billion for diagnoses that they themselves added over the period.<br><em><a href="https://substack.com/redirect/068eaf55-6010-4350-b3c0-63a3af7c9d00?j=eyJ1IjoiYWFqZiJ9.tlglIP-fFnicE1tX_KbptJ682RdwaWdvX02MA3Ihq5M" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Christopher Weaver, Tom McGinty, Anna Wilde Mathews and Mark Maremont, The Wall Street Journal</a></em></div><footer><div class="uagb-blockquote__author-wrap uagb-blockquote__author-at-left"><cite class="uagb-blockquote__author">Thanks to NumLock News.</cite></div><a href="/" class="uagb-blockquote__tweet-button" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><svg width="20" height="20" viewBox="0 0 512 512"><path d="M459.37 151.716c.325 4.548.325 9.097.325 13.645 0 138.72-105.583 298.558-298.558 298.558-59.452 0-114.68-17.219-161.137-47.106 8.447.974 16.568 1.299 25.34 1.299 49.055 0 94.213-16.568 130.274-44.832-46.132-.975-84.792-31.188-98.112-72.772 6.498.974 12.995 1.624 19.818 1.624 9.421 0 18.843-1.3 27.614-3.573-48.081-9.747-84.143-51.98-84.143-102.985v-1.299c13.969 7.797 30.214 12.67 47.431 13.319-28.264-18.843-46.781-51.005-46.781-87.391 0-19.492 5.197-37.36 14.294-52.954 51.655 63.675 129.3 105.258 216.365 109.807-1.624-7.797-2.599-15.918-2.599-24.04 0-57.828 46.782-104.934 104.934-104.934 30.213 0 57.502 12.67 76.67 33.137 23.715-4.548 46.456-13.32 66.599-25.34-7.798 24.366-24.366 44.833-46.132 57.827 21.117-2.273 41.584-8.122 60.426-16.243-14.292 20.791-32.161 39.308-52.628 54.253z"></path></svg>Tweet</a></footer></blockquote></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Thursday, June 6th, we have the privilege of hearing Jennifer Schwalm speak about conditions in the senior living and life care market place. Pennswood, in addition to being our community and our home, is a competitor in these markets. For strategic planning, it is essential that we inform ourselves about the business prospects and other external factors that influence our sustainability financially. Here is Jennifer&#8217;s CV from her firm&#8217;s website, and also some questions that I submitted. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Three letters have been sent following our discussions at the recent meeting. They are reproduced below with a brief narrative introduction. Subscribers are encouraged to comment on this post.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"></p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Answers to Financial Questions</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dan Seeger reiterated his request to Tim McQuaid for a follow-up meeting to clarify and explain the brief responses made at the budget presentation.</p>

<div class="wp-block-algori-pdf-viewer-block-algori-pdf-viewer alignundefined"><iframe class="wp-block-algori-pdf-viewer-block-algori-pdf-viewer-iframe" src="https://pv-eldercare.org/wp-content/plugins/algori-pdf-viewer-pro/dist/web/viewer.html?file=https%3A%2F%2Fpv-eldercare.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2024%2F05%2F2024-05-02-RE_-2024-2025-Financial-Plan-and-the-March-18-2024-Meeting_Redacted.pdf&amp;open-file=1&amp;view-bookmark=1&amp;theme-color=undefined#page=1&amp;zoom=auto" style="width:600px;height:300px"></iframe></div>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Concerns about Rumors</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dan Seeger, on behalf of the Eldercare Discussion Group, wrote to Dan Murray expressing our concerns and asking for more community discussion of 1) how Pennswood deals with individual employees and the resident community when termination of employment is deemed necessary, and 2) a more fulsome response to Alice Crozier&#8217;s question about CCRC marketplace changes and regulatory changes that &#8220;paused&#8221; plans for health center construction and renovation.</p>

<div class="wp-block-algori-pdf-viewer-block-algori-pdf-viewer alignundefined"><iframe class="wp-block-algori-pdf-viewer-block-algori-pdf-viewer-iframe" src="https://pv-eldercare.org/wp-content/plugins/algori-pdf-viewer-pro/dist/web/viewer.html?file=https%3A%2F%2Fpv-eldercare.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2024%2F05%2FMurray-Dan-2024-05-02.pdf&amp;open-file=1&amp;view-bookmark=1&amp;theme-color=undefined#page=1&amp;zoom=auto" style="width:600px;height:300px"></iframe></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"></p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Surprise Announcements of Healthcare Policy </h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Brad Sheeks, a member of the Healthcare Advisory Committee, requests that his committee object to the fact that important changes to healthcare services are announced without prior consultation with the resident committee charged with providing advice on such matters. </p>

<div class="wp-block-algori-pdf-viewer-block-algori-pdf-viewer alignundefined"><iframe class="wp-block-algori-pdf-viewer-block-algori-pdf-viewer-iframe" src="https://pv-eldercare.org/wp-content/plugins/algori-pdf-viewer-pro/dist/web/viewer.html?file=https%3A%2F%2Fpv-eldercare.org%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2024%2F05%2FConcern-May-2-2024.pdf&amp;open-file=1&amp;view-bookmark=1&amp;theme-color=undefined#page=1&amp;zoom=auto" style="width:600px;height:300px"></iframe></div>
